Snicker doodles: Jean says this is a very common Mennonite and Amish recipe. She makes it when she goes to Susan’s school or if there are school parties-also makes them at home for family or visitors. Everyone seems to like them. Snicker doodles 1 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. sugar 2 eggs 2 3/4 c. flour 2 tsp. cream of tarter 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt Cinnamon sugar Set oven at 400 degrees. Cream together the shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Mix together the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt, add to first mixture. Chill 15 minutes. Roll into balls the size of walnuts. Roll each into cinnamon/sugar. Bake on non-greased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes. Enjoy. Jean

Theres only about 25% of the snow left on the ground at best, maybe less. Richard
Sorry you got all that snow. Ugh !!! We didn't get it, but down state over to the east they got it pretty bad. Glad it missed us. Really enjoy those pictures.Marilyn
Good morning Marilyn, and those flakes were so thick and fluffy when i first went outside to take these. I really had to take some pictures because of the history of the thing (1972) so I'm glad i got myself in gear to wander outside! Richard
Good morning – I look at your posts every day and have even made one of your recipes. But just commenting today how truly wonderful your pictures are and what a great place to live. Beautiful. sandie
Well since having made Lissa's delicious Pumpkin Whoopie Pies and my husband AND the neighbors all raving about them, I must wait until before Thanksgiving before indulging in sweet treats!! One of my neighbors who got the Whoopies sent me not one but TWO texts about how delicious they are so thanks Lissa, that recipe is a keeper! Super easy to make too. Looking at the snowy scenes I thought I was right at home! We finally got our first snowfall on the ground in Anchorage in the wee hours of October 31. Termination dust season has ended! Snow is here to stay! Now I am driving very carefully around town until I get the feel of driving on icy roads (which I do not enjoy). Glad I had my snow tires restudded. And yesterday, November 1, our snowplow guy plowed our driveway, first snowplow of the season. Well, winter is here now!
great photos! i just missed that storm on my way back from new england!
Wonderful photos. Recipes sound YUMMY ! Have a great day !

I just found your blog and it's like coming home. I am from Mechanicsburg, Pa and came to Lancaster many, many times. We are now living here in Florida and I'm so homesick but your blog has made me feel so much better. I can't thank you enough for sharing a little bit of your world with the rest of us. My great-grandmother was Mennonite and my mother was Pa. Dutch and I give thanks everyday for having had them in my life.Blessings, Barbara
Nice photos. I was really glad it wasn't us but unfortunately our turn will come:(
Great photos Richard. I also make snickerdoodle cookies at home. We have still no snow and todays weather was beautiful but we soon will get our share. I Also wanted to comment on Jeans post and say that I am praying for their family. I believe God has put Michael in their home for a reason. His plans are greater than ours. I was so saddened to hear how his parents spoke of him. I believe Michael is happy where he is right now. Thanks for caring enough to open your home especially to a child that is a bit older. Remember our rewards come not on this earth. When I read about the cake I just thought you go girl!! Thanks again for sharing!! Veronica
Greetings folks and i can say as of right now 99% of the snow is all gone, we had a mild day with some sunshine which seemed to do the trick in making the snow disappear! Richard
Hi cat and ill be visiting your blog in a day or so along with some other's. Yes all that snow so early was kind of a wake-up call, but considering things were fairly calm with an average amount of car accidents reported. The biggest thing really were the power outages and brown-outs, and from my understanding there are a few who still don't have any power. Richard
Greetings!!2 very good recipes and some awesome pictures, what more could I ask for?? LOL Thanks for sharing Richard. We did not get that snow here but my hometown got about a foot of the white stuff.Raining hard here this morning and going to turn colder again. I am over due for a trip to Arthur, hope I can get away soon.have a blessed day!Alice
All of the snow here is now melted Alice, so you would never think that it ever happened. I only wish tax collectors would disappear that fast, lol. Richard
Makes me want to go skiing. But I'm certainly not shoveling.
