– Burns: An aloe vera plant is a very good first aid for burns and scalds. Break off leaf – the slippery ooze will seal off air from burn and will stop the pain in a few minutes. Severe of deep burns need the care of a physician. Leave burn uncovered whenever possible. This hastens healing. A paste made of unsalted lard and flour will also aid in taking the pain from burns.
– Diarrhea: 1). Drink juice of canned blackberry and/or blueberries. 2). The leaves of the shrub of blueberries are made into a tea. Drink a cup several times a day. 2 tsp. dried leaves plus 1 pint boiling water.

– Pantry Plant Food: 1 t. baking powder, 1 t. Epsom salt, 1 t. saltpeter, 1/2 t. household ammonia. Stir together and mix with 1 gallon of lukewarm water. Water with this in place of regular watering every 4-6 weeks. This works very well to perk up houseplants, especially vines and ivy.
– Varnish Remover: Mix 1 cup ammonia, 1 cup Borax, 1 cup salsoda, 2 cups water. Put on with paint brush. Let soak for 20 minutes or so and wash off with soapy water. Then rinse with clear water.

Before i go for the day, has any other blogger been having issues either posting or editing your stories on your blog?. I've been on a few blogs where the blog host has said they were having some issues. I started having them when i started editing the Bonanza post last week, and i didn't think it was going to happen at all because i was really having some problems putting it together!. See you everyone I'm out……. Richard
You may add me to the list of bloggers who are having troubles . I am unable to comment at times – I will type a comment & it will vanish when I try to publish it. Sadly there is no Amish remedy for it! Wonderful post & many practical home tips. I am definitely going to make the Amish Yummy to share with my office. Thanks so much for this post. And I'm really looking forward to the Jim Thorpe post. Many of the children I teach area Native Americans, as was my step-grandfather.
Hello folks and just getting back online after being in Lancaster for most of the day. I was able to get i think some pretty good pictures of fall in Lancaster county. I also went on that "Witness" movie tour tonight for a few hours, so it was interesting going on the same farm that Harrison Ford and the cast were on during the making of that movie. Lots of images and it felt strange walking down the same hill that those crooked police officers did towards the end of the movie. Me and another person on the tour wanted to get out and walk while the other folks stayed in that tour van. I was able to get inside the kitchen where they filmed the movie, and all i can say is "man is it much smaller than i first had thought". Richard
Love the recipes thank you for posting them. Thank you for sharing.
I ate out tonight in Lancaster as well because i really had too, but that worked out well for me because i turned eating out into a restaurant review! so i was able to accomplish quite a bit today, and look for that review in the future. Good night everyone. Richard
Your very welcome Vanessa, and thanks for stopping by Amish Stories. Richard

If you have any rain to spare would you please send it our way? Thanks. Maura 🙂

I know Maura you guys in Kansas and some other western states have had a very bad year with the lack of rain. I'm sure you know that we on the northeast have been receiving way too much of the wet stuff, but the only chance for you looks to be in the form of snow for any kind of moisture. Richard
The pumpkin recipes sure look good!
Yes they do Garden, so thanks to Jean for providing me with those. Richard
