If you were a kid growing up in any era and you had a bike and it was not a Schwinn, there's a good chance that you wished it was. If some remember I did 2 posts on one of my Schwinn's that I have which is a 10 speed Varsity adult bike over 30 years in age but in mint condition, and I have a few more from this brand that are all made in the original Chicago factory. Richard
Thank you for sharing this ad, it certainly brings back childhood memories. I never had a Schwinn, but I did buy a secondhand bike for $20. I took me a long time to save that kind of money back in the 50's. That bike was the thrill of my life, I adored it. My favorite summer pleasure was to wake-up early while everyone else was still in bed and go for a long bike ride as the sun was rising and the morning air was so fresh and wonderful. Thanks for the memory. Have a wonderful day, Connie 🙂
Glad that you enjoyed this ad Connie, and I know that my own original Schwinn that I had bought in 1974 was very important to me as well. It allowed me to travel much more distances and see many more things than I could on foot, and for that very reason my very first Schwinn was priceless. And thank you for telling your own bike story today as I enjoyed reading it. Richard
i had that same bike in blue. it was handed down to me though and was not in great shape but i sure rode the heck out of it.
I loved to ride my bike when I was a kid. I had a blue/green bike. Remember the days before bike helmets? Who knew back then…..I loved the freedom of exploring new neighborhoods. And people seemed to be more cautious of bike riders then too instead of trying to run bikes down. I remember adding the shiny streamers to the handlebars. Bling!! The other week some idiot driving a pickup truck intentionally hit a boy who was innocently on his skateboard! This is in a supposedly safe area where I also walk my dogs! it was just terrible. The kid was not hurt terribly and the police caught the offender. It was just unbelieveable.Still warm here by the way. I have not yet spotted any termination dust. It is just rainy.

I use to own a Schwinn when I was a child. Drove that thing for many years. Then I got one of those English bikes and rode that until I accident with it because the brakes went out. I then went back to Schwinn-until I got my drivers license. I have a Diamond Back bike now-been in the basement for two years-think it's time I sold it. My bike riding days are over.Marilyn
I went to a small bike museum that has mostly Schwinn's last year and was able to take a few pictures, so I need to post that at some point on Amish Stories. I have found that bike collecting is a business with many being restored with the same care as say a classic car would be, and the good thing about collecting classic bikes is the fact that this hobby can be somewhat affordable for a lot more people compared to cars.
