Jean and David and helpers are getting the kitchen back together. They decided as long as they are doing it over-they might as well do it the way they wanted it. They took down a wall to expand the kitchen. Also they widened the doorway from the kitchen to the dining area. The new cupboards going in are being handmade. Jean's getting a new stove and refrigerator along with replacing the freezer, washer and dryer that got damaged in the fire. Marilyn
What are scary situation to go through. How thoughtful of Michael to be sure he protected Susan. This can happen so quickly and to anyone. I am so glad that Michael did not run away. What a blessing that he has parents like David and Jean that are so understanding and know that having their children safe is the greatest gift. Hope all the renovations are going well and I will be keeping all of you in my prayers. God Bless Veronica
I'm so glad that everyone is ok. Michael did a great job of taking care of Susan and the animals. I love how neighbors, friends and family are helping to replace what was lost. Did they have insurance? Vicki
I am sure that Jean and her family are now recognizing this as a blessing in disguise. They saw their community rallying around them and they get to redo their kitchen the way they want. The main thing is that the children and the animals were unharmed. Still, it's a scary thing to go through.
Hi Vicki,No, they don't believe in buying insurance. But when David bought the washer, dryer and freezer he bought some store insurance or something. He didn't know what it was but it replaced the washer, dryer and freezer for nothing. All they had to pay for was the new refrigerator and stove. Most of the work on the kitchen is being done by David, Jean, family, Amish, Old Order Mennonite or outsiders. David and Michael are handmaking the new cupboards for Jean-just the wood she wanted and style she wanted. Marilyn
Oh my! That is so sad. I am very glad Michael and Susan are fine and also that Michael thought of helping the animals in the barn.So glad for the Amish Community all pitching together to help Jean and David put their home back together. Hugs to all!
Hi Ina,I got another dog and it is a 3 year old male poodle, I named him Pierre because I didn't like the name he had. He is such a good doggie. I just got him two new coats today. I know you have poodles, so I wanted to tell you.Marilyn
Ive added a new image header to Amish Stories today, thought id do a little spring cleaning early on the blog. These 2 images have not been seen yet and i took these 2 myself. Richard
poor michael! he must have felt awful. god works in strange ways and as long as no one was hurt maybe this experience will make michael understand how much he means to all of you!
Praises to the Lord for all of his blessings. I am so glad everyone is ok. The material things can be fixed, people cannot be replaced, no matter what.Things happens and you are all so blessed to have a loving community to be there.Blessing be upon you.
Good Morning Richard and Marylin! I am so glad that everyone is ok. We also had a fire in our house when we were little. The bright side is Jean will get a wonderful new kitchen. Good for Michael for doing the right thing! He has a family that loves him no matter what! Just like Jesus loves us (o:….Blessings~ Lissa
Glad to hear everyone is well. I also think that the blessing in the fire is that Michael will learn about the amount you all love him. Having had a life before that was so harsh.
Hi folks and the first thing that i had thought when told of the fire was "I hope everyone is ok", and that's the most important thing and i know everyone agrees on that. So I'm sure the next post from Jean will still be a little about the rebuilding of her kitchen. Richard
Hi Lissa and how is your Amish made scooter doing, are you planning any cross country trips with it yet, lol. Richard
Richard – Jean always ends her post with "be with God". thank you Jean, for always saying that. i appreciate it so much and it means so much to me. i am so glad that God was with all of you during this tragedy. i am so glad that Michael is your son, was quick-thinking enough to get Susan safe, and the animals, and that you have taught him so well in such a short period of time that he is so "with God". i send healing prayers and well-wishes to you, Jean, and to all of your family. this is a difficult time but it will pass. especially when you have such a strong, and amazing, family.Richard, my friend, can you please be sure that Jean reads my comment. i know that i can count on you.your friend, kymber
Hi Kymber,When I have been at Jean's and I go to leave she always Goodby and then she says Be with God. She says that to everyone. Her parents, and David's parents say the same thing when someone leaves. Marilyn
I sympathize with the family. I experienced fire in the last several months, it was too close for comfort, and that was just the smoke that I witnessed away. Everyone was okay in our situation and the damage to my and the neighbor’s adjoining unit was minimal even thought it took forever to repair, the fact that everyone still had a home to stay in and all was safe is the key thing.
Hi Marilyn! Congratulations on your new doggie Pierre!! Please email me with details! What is his story, how big is he, what color… he is so lucky to have found you. and how is your other dog? Also, I would like to send him a little present so be sure to include your mailing address!! ijoffret@gmail.com
Hi Marilyn – i think that is a lovely way to send someone off when they leave. can you please be sure that Jean knows that we are all sending our love and prayers to her and her family? thank you Marilyn.your friend, kymber
Nice and warm today in the Lancaster area today folks, with temps hitting in the low 70s. Recipe of the week will be Chow Chow this Wednesday! Richard
Greetings,As usual I am running late on my blog reading and writing, LOL. Seems I have less and less time these days.Jean your post brought a tear to my eye. I too set a kitchen on fire once while cooking so I know exactly how Michael felt. He did a fine job though taking care of Susan and the animals. Something to be proud of. Please tell Michael he is much loved by many and accidents do happen.God has a way of working everything for the good, so I imagine this was something Michael had to experience if for nothing else to reassure him that you and David really do love him and would not send him away.I am sorry for the loss and damage to your home but the most precious things are fine, the children!!Blessings, Alice
As always Alice its very nice to see you, and your very right about the very precious things in life. I also hope that your feeling better by now! Richard
Hi Richard!! Got on here a little late today. It has been raining here and is supposed to for the remainder of the week. No road trips yet, but I can tell I will have to build up a bit more if I plan on making it to the store. It is a mile and a half from me but then I have to ride back LOL! that is my goal though (o: Hope everyone is well! Blessings to all~ Lissa
I was so sorry to hear about the fire, but am glad all are ok and are moving forward with the new kitchen. And it is truly a blessing the way the community turns out for you!
I'm glad nobody was hurt and nothing more was lost. Fire can be a scary thing and it moves so quickly. As others said, this is a blessing in disguise as now you are getting the kitchen that you wanted. Sometimes things just work out that way.
Hi Richard,I am on the mend but it is slow going. Thanks for asking! I do not get emails from here any more so did not know there were other posts. 😦 Not sure why it won't send email updates. When I have felt half way decent I have been busy trying to catch up on all the work that went by the way side while I was extremely sick. Ugh, I think it will take a year to catch up!! Its also spring cleaning time and boy am I tearing things apart, LOL.Blessings, Alice
Me too Alice!! I got into my closet and it went from one thing to another. Next are the walls. The fire place makes work, but it is so nice. Be Blessed ~Lissa
Glad you are feeling better too, Alice…..(0;
