My very own Mustang, and this horse sure brings a smile to my face ! |
Freda Bateman’s Double Chocolate Chip Cookies
Recipe’s from our very own Marilyn of New York
2 12 OZ. packs of chocolate chips
Package of nuts (walnut or pecan)
3 Cups sifted flour
1 1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
My Mustang again! |
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar (packed)
1 1/2 sticks margarine
2 tablespoons water
2 eggs
Sift flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl. Put sugar, margarine and water in saucepan. After butter melts partially turn burner off-butter will melt while you stir. After margarine is completely melted start adding one bag of chocolate chips while you continue to stir. When chips are partially melted in bowl-wait 5 minutes, then add 1 egg at a time, beating in each egg individually. With mixer on low add flour, soda, and salt mixture slowly. Just before putting dough on cookie sheets add the second bag of chocolate chips and nuts. Place dough teaspoon size on cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
This Oatmeal Cookie Recipe came out of Betty Crocker’s Good and Easy Cook Book that came out in 1954. I made these cookies for my Dad from the 1950’s until he passed away in the 1990’s. I tried different recipes, but this, to my Dad, was the best, so I gave up on all the others and used this one. I haven’t made these since my Dad passed away in 1998. Marilyn
Stir-Drop Oatmeal Cookies
1 cup sifted flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1 Cup brown sugar (packed)
1 Cup quick rolled oats (I used Quaker Oats you can get at the grocery store)
1/4 cup cooking (salad) oil
2 tbsp milk
1 egg
3/4 cup Spanish peanuts (my Dad preferred raisins or chocolate chips instead of peanuts)
Heat over to 375 degrees. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, spices into bowl. Add brown sugar, rolled oats. Mix in thoroughly oil, milk, egg. Add peanuts (or raisins or chocolate chips). Drop with teaspoon 2″ apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes just until a light touch with finger leaves no imprint. Recipe makes about 3 doz. cookies.
The following recipe comes from a restaurant that was in business for many years-but was sold a few years ago. The name of the restaurant was Kellogg’s Pan, Tree Motor Inn. When Kellogg’s (not the cereal people) sold the restaurant-they took the recipes. I got this recipe from the original, Mr. Kellogg, owner many years before his children closed the restaurant when he turned it over to them.
French Silk Chocolate Pie
Cream 3/4 Butter
Add gradually and cream well 1 cup and 2 tbsp. granulated sugar
Blend in:
1 1/2 squares melted Chocolate
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla
Add 3 Eggs, ONE AT A TIME, beating (medium speed) 5 minutes after each Egg.
Pour into cooled Graham Cracker Shell
The Amish cook on Thursday, and on Friday a new post on Arthur Illinois Amish settlement along with a pumpkin whoopie pie recipe! |
Good morning, now start your engines! I always wanted to say that folks, and this post had been re-worked to make it shorter as I've been known to publish some really long post's on Amish Stories. So i took off about about 25% off from what i had originally or maybe even more, so I'm trying to learn to get to the point with less words. Feel free to share your car memory's regardless what type of car it may have been, and everyone enjoy your day as its raining this morning over my way. Richard
Good Morning,I thought the Mustang came out-I think in the summer of 1963-so of as a test car to see if they would really sell. The World's Far Started in 1963. After Mustang proved to be such a hit they really started producing them in 1964. I may be wrong. They had a big flop in the 1950's and early 60's of the Edsel and they wanted to make sure that the Mustang wasn't a flog like the Edsel. I always wanted a Mustang and still haven't had one. Now, I think I might have a problem getting into it as it is so low to the ground. One of my brothers use to own a blue Mustang. He had been driving a Corvette, but his fiance (now my sister-in-law) said either she went or the Corvette went. So he turned the Corvette in at the Chevy Dealer and took the money to the Ford dealer and bought a Mustang.
Good Morning all!Well I too have always love Mustangs. Especially the Shelby. (0;Some great recipes today! Thank you. I will have to add them to my recipe box. (0;. Have a blessed day ~ Lissa
I will have to print out the recipes, but that can wait a little bit.The mustang was actually NOT named for the breed of horses, rather the airplanes. I'm glad you skipped the fastbacks, never been a fan of those, but he early modles as shown? DROOL!Would those be '65, '66 & 67's featured? lol Of course yours looks to be more of a late 90's. Like a '96 maybe? I think you told me once, but I don't honestly remember. Brain fart.I am a fan of the mustangs and cars in general, but I find myself playing a game of guess the model instead and usually with the mercedes, BMW's, Jaguars and higher priced cars. What can I say? I have expensive tastes…
Hi Linda and you are correct on how the Mustang was named. But the horse connection seems to have stuck which is why so many folks think the orig car was named after a horse. My Mustang would be a 2007 model, its my second Mustang and the one before this was a 2000 model. I'm so sorry i sold that car, which is my biggest regret to this day car wise! Richard
And Marilyn i think your dad would have enjoyed seeing your recipes up on the internet, and on Amish Stories. Plus he really enjoyed some of these which i think that in its self is a very nice story. Richard
Thank you Richard, that was very kind of you.Marilyn
Your very welcome Marilyn and I'm sure you dad is looking down and smiling. Richard
And I couldn't even spell models right the first time around… my bad! And being 11 years off on the year of your car? I think I may need to go home for the day. Wow.I printed the recipe and will be trying them soon. I need some good cookies in my life. Thank you Marilyn for posting the recipe. It sounds like it is aimed to please, which may be why your father liked them so much. 🙂
I love the mustangs..love the the 60's models and the models now..I never cared for the 70's look..and I must say my favorite was the shelby in the movie "gone in 60 seconds"…Eleanor was SAAAWWWWEEETTT!!! I cried when she got totaled..:) and I can't wait to try the double chocolate chip cookies at christmas..thanks for sharing all these wonderful recipes.)
My very first car was a Mustang 🙂 Long time ago! You've got to love a classic car and a classic cookie or pie.
These cookies look great, thank you, Marilyn. Always wanted a Mustang! Still waiting for the reality!
Hi lady's and thank you for your Mustang stories. And poor Linda i think you might need a nice nap perhaps, lol. Well at least you knew right off the bat it was a Mustang poor thing. And ill try to drop by some blogs by the end of this week as I've been on zero so far in a week. So if i was i know the number of comments a visits would be a lot higher, but its fine and I'm glad you guys could drop by. And i wish everyone a good night and ill see you back on Thursday. Richard
Glad you like the recipes. I have one of bread that my Mother made at Christmas. Somehow what degree you set the oven at and how long you cook it was torn off. I gave Jean the recipe and she said she would figure that out. When she does and it gets closer to Christmas I will send it to Richard. I also have the recipe to a salad my Mom made every Christmas. While speaking of Jean-she has Christmas recipes, too.Marilyn
I always wanted a fire engine red mustang covertable with a black interior and white convertable top. I saw that once and I really liked it. I don't want any 4 or 6 cylinder under hood-I want an 8. I'd put the Beach Boys on the CD and the pedal to the medal.
I am late to the party today! The Mustang is an iconic car & I have always admired them but never owned one. My mom had a 1960 black Thunderbird- what a pretty car it was! I loved it – I would enjoy having one of the new T-Birds (2 seater, also black) – but I live in AK – so I have a very practical Mercedes ML 320 in burgundy – great in bad weather, heavy, reliable car! I feel very safe in it & all my dogs fit in it – I even drove my car in summer of 2006 all the way from Anchorage to the Jersey Shore – my mom flew to Alaska to take the road trip with me & my dog Ginger. We had so much fun on that trip & saw many sights, my favorite stop was in Banff, Alberta Canada- we stayed at the beautiful Fairmont- surprisingly pets are welcome there!!My sister helped me drive the car at the end of that summer from NJ to Seattle, where we put the car on a ship to Anchorage & we all flew to our homes from Seattle!
Oh!! & Marilyn thanks for the recipes!! I will try your Dad's favorite CC cookie recipe!!So many good recipes to try in Amish Stories!
I can see you now Marilyn barreling down a country road in upstate New York in that big Lincoln of yours, lol. And thanks for your car story Ina, and its better to be at least late than not here for that party. I really liked the new Thunder Birds that were out up until a few years ago, and id love to have a yellow one in my garage as well. Richard
Marylin, I can just picture you in your dream car! LOL Beach Boys playin and all (0;Thanks for the recipes. I"m very interested in the Christmas bread. Sounds great ~ Lissa
Looking forward to the bread recipe. For whatever reason, my bread recipes just don't seem to work out like they should. I would either take a 65 Mustang in metallic navy blue or an early 70's Dodge Dart Swinger edition with a 318 in it. Drop a 360 in it and things could easily get out of hand.
You guys are still talking about cars i see, and i must be honest i really love the new Dodge challenger. I would order one deep red with a hemi, I'm a very big fan of its retro classic looks. Richard
I've always loved Mustangs! My Dad used to have one when I was little. I used to sit in the front seat when it was parked out front and pretend to drive it. 🙂 Someday would love to have one of my own. I think my favorite color might be the same as your Mustang. That is one sweet car!
Yes Karen i used to do the same thing in my dads car, sit behind the wheel and pretend i was driving. And thank you for your car story as well, and i hope that you do get your Mustang! Richard
This is the first time I've seen recipes illustrated with Ford Mustang photos, LOL. Thank you Marilyn!
Well i like to mix things up a little Leigh, plus i do love Mustangs. And i wont be making the same mistake selling the one that i have, so its a keeper for me. Richard
What a beautiful cars! In here we say" MUSSE".Its very expensive car in Finland.
Hi RBW and I'm pretty sure most American cars would be expensive after being imported with all those taxes that most places love to place on them. And you being in Finland i would take a wild guess and say cars from Japan and from Germany's VW would be very popular over there. Richard
